Overview
I'm Elias, a lettering artist, illustrator, and graphic designer based in Berlin.
My work focuses on the craft of typographic illustration and lettering across various design formats, including editorial design, book covers, and anything that intentionally incorporates type and letters as key design elements.
In book cover design, titles must accomplish two things: catch the readers eye with a bold presence, and reflect the story lying inside its pages.
Lettering, illustration and type play a huge role at conveying not only a written message, but also setting the right tone and carrying significance through shapes and colours.
Can you imagine living in a world where everything is typed in Times New Roman? Of course not! There is no need to constrain your book cover title using a font designed to fit thousands of other purposes when you can make your title be unique to fit your and only your story instead.
What kind of deliverables you can expect from me:
- Paperback cover design (including front, back and spine)
- 3D cover mockup
- Editable files
- Special ink layers inside final file (gold foil, embossing, etc)
- Isolated title design for promotion
- Isolated design elements for promotion
I've had the pleasure of collaborating on custom projects with esteemed organisations such as Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Pentagram, Wired, M&M’s, Conde Nast, and many others.
Over the years, I've refined my work process to ensure a smooth journey from briefing to final deliverable. Stages of my work process that you can expect:
1. 2 to 3 first rough sketches based on a clear briefing and previous research.
2. Digital drawing & color treatment on a selected direction.
3. Pre-final revision for final approval.
4. Project sign off.
I'm a pursuer of an effective communication with authors and art directors to make the best out of each project. Transparency, constructive feedback, trust and attention to detail are paramount.
Drop a message if you have any questions, I'll be glad to chat with you!
