Karen Stocz Oemler

Karen Stocz Oemler – Editor

Nonfiction copyeditor and proofreader with over 20 years of experience. Expert in citation and documentation.

Overview

Hi! I'm a freelance project manager, copyeditor, and proofreader based just outside of Boston, MA. I have twenty years of publishing experience, and 15 of those have been as the sole proprietor of my own publishing services company. I've worked on everything from business guides to the history of cannabis.

I have extensive experience with documentation and the organization of references. I'm an expert in Chicago Manual of Style, but I also have experience with MLA and APA. Nothing makes my heart race more than diving in to work on a references list that needs a little love!

While I love grammar and punctuation rules, my editing style is unobtrusive. If an author has a distinct voice, I like to let that shine. Above all, I know that submitting work for edit can be intimidating, but I am always on the author's side. I want to do whatever I can to make the work shine!

When I'm not editing, I love volunteering with my trained therapy dog, reading, traveling, and baking.

Karen was amazing to collaborate with. I hired her to copyedit nine pages of endnotes for me. She was extremely knowledgeable regarding the formatting of endnotes, very thorough, and did an exceptional job. She was quick to respond to any questions I had and delivered the edits early. I'm very grateful to have worked with her. Would highly recommend.
