Overview
To meet client needs I do whatever combination of writing, ghostwriting, research, developmental editing, structural and stylistic editing, copy editing, editing of visuals, and proofreading clients need. These projects are wide ranging—written for readers in the US, Canada, or around the world; for young and old; and with language that is informal, formal, technical, or plain. Many projects involve ghostwriting, other types of unheralded work behind the scenes, niche publications for specialized markets, and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). That's OK with me; I work to help clients achieve their goals and make their publications shine.
Here are some recent sample projects:
• a book of stories from a professional career spanning decades and continents
• a book exploring personal roots and adventures around the world
• an online publication combining knowledge and advice from top experts in an industry
• a handbook combining interviews about lived experience, facts, advice, photos, and art
Many projects (including those above) required ghostwriting and are for niche markets, but my portfolio shows some for broad audiences and for which I was hired for editing and/or proofreading.
I'm very thankful to have worked with writers and subject matter experts who have opened my eyes to the wonders of numbers, the complexity of their industries, the beauty of the Arctic, and the richness of diverse lives and communities. Along the way, there have been some odd contrasts in projects—such as plumbing and hell, math and fashion, and career development and climate change.
Employers (past) and clients (past and present) include Pearson, Oxford University Press, Nelson, Scholastic Canada, Annick Press, Inhabit Education, GoodMinds, JUMP Math, the Art Canada Institute, the Insurance Institute of Canada, Page Two Strategies, Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, individual authors, and government departments. I’m a member of both Editors Canada and PLAIN (Plain Language International) and a Certified Structural and Stylistic Editor (a certification of excellence by Editors Canada).

Work experience
Self-employed
After working inhouse for three publishing companies (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich; Holt, Rinehart and Winston; and Centennial College Press), I started my own freelance writing and editing business and have worked since then for a wide range of clients. In addition, and while maintaining my freelance business, I have worked on staff for the following publishers: Inhabit Education, Pearson Canada, Annick Press, and McGraw Hill Canada. Many projects I have worked on have been for specialized markets and/or involving ghostwriting or behind-the-scenes tasks, but I'm happy to discuss projects in greater depth if NDAs and other contracts allow.
