Readers will love this silly story featuring a lovable dragon whose tummy is rumbling & requires substance NOW before he spits fire AGAIN!
Dragon's lunch is up to one very brave little girl! But fear not! She knows exactly what he'd like to eat!
...Or does she?
"We call it a 'phenomenon' that really was quite dire.
My Dragon was so hungry that he started spitting fire!
I tried to dodge the flames as Dragon lost complete control
but then my pants caught fire, and I had to drop and roll.
So, now I must be careful and make sure he's always fed.
(Or else I might end up with toasted underwear instead!)"
Will Dragon enjoy all of her favorite junk foods? Or will he prefer something...unexpected?
In this hilarious and beautifully illustrated picture book, readers are taken along on a fun adventure that even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy! Written in rhyming verse and fun to read aloud, this story will quickly become a family favorite!
Every day, parents battle their kids over food. What do you want to eat? Just try one bite. Eat your broccoli; it's good for you. When a child doesn't like the food served, they quickly let us know. Babies will spit the food back at you, while toddlers might throw tantrums or lock their lips. Some kids might even hide the unwelcomed morsels or feed them to a family pet. Creating a well-balanced meal can be challenging, especially when your child is starving. So, parents have to be quick with feedings before a child screams, cries, or asks a thousand times over when the food will be ready.
Uh-oh! My Dragon's Hungry follows a little girl's efforts to feed her hungry dragon before he spits fire...again. She weighs her options closely, scrutinizing what she thinks he would like to eat and what he would turn his snout to. As each food is named, ask your child or class to give the food a thumbs up or down. Encourage them to list the foods they love eating or which they'd ban, as King Dragon would supposedly do with casserole and vegetables. Also, ask your students if they have pets at home and (if so) what they feed them.
Uh-oh! My Dragon's Hungry is a silly story featuring a lovable dragon whose tummy is rumbling and requires substance NOW! Kids will laugh at the wacky illustrations, like using a real donut to float down the chocolate sauce lake or the dragon's toothy smile as it explores the Milky Way in a small spacecraft. Parents and teachers will love the illustrations and the rhyming pattern.
Maintaining a 14-syllable rhyme scheme throughout an entire book is rather tricky. I can see the author put a great deal of thought into each line written. While I would have liked to see "stop" added to the line with "drop and roll" since it's a common three-step phrase taught to kids if their clothes ever catch fire, I can understand the need to stick to a syllable pattern to reach optimal flow and readability.
The writer impressed me with their imagination and storyline, and the artist did a sensational job on the illustrations. I recommend sharing the book with children three years and older. I also recommend having a snack nearby because I bet their stomachs will be rumbling before readers reach the story's conclusion!
I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, Goodreads, and X (formerly Twitter.) Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D

In Mid-Colorado, you’ll find a weird mother with SO many kids—she does NOT need another! This life with those goofballs is CRAZY, no question. (Not crazy for real, that is just an expression.) Her love for all children began with her own, so she writes, and she draws for all children unknown. view profile
